Education: The Foundation of a Progressive Society
Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive and succeed in their passion. We, at Abraham’s Tent, are dedicated to ensuring this possibility.
Padmanee Sharma, MD, PhD and her family established Abraham’s Tent in 2007. Dr. Sharma was born and raised in Guyana until the age of 10, when she emigrated with her parents and sibling to the United States. Dr. Sharma knows that education is a critical tool in the challenge to overcome poverty and to build a successful life.
Dr. Sharma and her husband, Dr. James Allison, recently launched the Sharmallison Scholarship Program under Abraham's Tent. This program provides funding for higher education to economically disadvantaged students in Guyana and the United States
“Learning is the only thing the mind never exhausts, never fears and never regrets”
Abraham's Tent is dedicated to helping children in need, especially girls in Guyana, some of whom get married before having a chance to pursue an education. Thanks to Dr. Sharma and Dr. Allison, we have an opportunity to make a difference in their lives.
